Pyrimidine is a hetero-aromatic compound containing two nitrogen atoms at positions 1 and 3 of the six-membered ring which shows a wide range of biological properties. Pyrimidines occupy a central position due to their presence in the genetic material of cells. Pyrimidine derivatives have been shown to have anticonvulsant, analgesic, sedative, anti-depressive, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anti-HIV, antimicrobial and antitumor properties. This review gives the way forward for research work reported in the recent scientific literature on various biological activities of pyrimidine analogues.
